1950's
Harvey Berin Printed Satin Dress with Chrystal Pleats
"Harvey Berin designed by
Karen Stark" label. Early 1950's. The Berin/Stark label was known for
excellent fit and construction. Harvey Berin had last say on all designs for
his label. He went to Paris twice a year to view the new fashions of the top
designers, it was there that he got his inspiration. Everything about this
dress is perfect. The fabric, the graduated print, the shirtwaist style, the
accordion pleating. Classic. The fabric is silk with a satin
finish - a charmuese. Cream background with oval dots which are large in size at outer
perimeters of dress, and gradually get smaller toward the center. The collar
is notched, the sleeves are cap style. The tiny elf buttons are perfectly
covered, and fasten into French bound button holes. Fitted, with very full
skirt. Side metal zipper. I have the dress with a narrower version of a
crinoline slip that is wider at the hem, I think this showcases the shape of
the dress. The dress is just about in Mint condition, showing very very
little wear. It has a dime sized shadow of a stain at one underarm, a
tiny speck spot on back bodice, and is missing original belt. I am including
a double ribbon belt. Size small/Tall. Measures 15 1/2" shoulder to shoulder
edge, 36" bust, 26" waist, free hips, 16 1/2" shoulder to waist, 30" waist
to hem. For a larger view

1950's
(Attributed to) Oleg Cassini Illusion Lace Cocktail Dress
"Saks Fifth Avenue" label.
I've had two of these exact dresses in the past, one black just like this
and the other persimmon color. Both with the Cassini label. Regardless, it
is a really gorgeous slinky cocktail dress. This is a sleek, slim-fitting little number of the
prettiest lace, more of a plume design than a floral lace. The entire outer
dress is made of this lace, with a lovely, billowy layer on the bodice which
is attached around the top and falls open around the waist. The bodice is
lined in silk faille and boned front to back, and has a very plunging
neckline. The top of the bodice and down the center plunge is lined in nude
mesh fabric which has been expertly hand-stitched in, which accentuates the
design in the lace. The skirt is lined in crepe and the waist has an inner
grosgrain waist-cincher belt with hook and eye. The skirt does not have a
back kick pleat, so no running in it! Straps are black crepe. Dress is in
very good condition, looks excellent, on close inspection has 2 mends in
lace and tiny holes in mesh lining. Size small. Measures 34" bust, 26" waist, 36" hips,
16" shoulder to waist, 28" waist to hem and a 29" midriff. For a larger view

1950's Lord
& Taylor Matte Satin Evening Dress with Bows
"Lord and Taylor Fifth
Avenue" and "Whitney" labels. This is such a gorgeous couture dress!
Very Dior! The dress is matte black silk satin, the finest. Styled with faux wrap
front, starting with surplice bodice with top layer extending down to
skirt. Bodice is fitted, plunging
neckline, bust is darted, waist is fitted. Skirt has faux wrap front and
is attached at the side of waist. Top skirt flap is rounded off at the
side/bottom for style, and decoratively pleated. The look is finished
with three self bows (they actually look more like flowers) starting at the side waist. The dress is fully
lined in silk and has it's own attached silk and horsehair netted
crinoline slip. Fastens with back metal zip and hook. In excellent like
new condition, but does have a small spot on back of skirt near side
seam, and a rip in the back seam of the crinoline slip. Size small.
