1960's Hanae Mori Op Art Print Dress

"Mori Hanae" label. Mori is considered the Queen of Couture in Japan. Mori opened her first clothing boutique in Tokyo in 1951. Soon after she began costume designing for film. In 1960, a fitting with Coco Chanel provided the inspiration that she must create Haute Couture. "East Meets West" was the theme for her first collection presented in New York in 1965. This collection was met with great enthusiasm by critics and the top department stores,  and as a result Mori opened two boutiques in New York. In 1977 she opened a Haute Couture house in Paris and also a boutique. The same year she became member of the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture". This was a very rare privilege for someone not French born, and (at the time) for a woman. This mod little silk dress from the mid 60's is a rare find, almost unheard of to find a 60's Mori piece.. A chic little shift style dress with attached self belt. Done in tangerine and yellow in an op art dots print. Partially lined, fastens with side snaps and hooks. A great example of early Hanae Mori. In very good condition. Has moderate wear, has been dry cleaned. Presents very nicely. Size small. Measures 34" bust, 34" waist, 36" hips, 36 1/2" in length. For a larger view click here. 1960's Anne Fogarty Hippy Chic Cotton Peasant Style Long Dress

"Anne Fogarty" label. This is really a lovely, feminine dress with a bohemian flair. Cotton voile fabric with multi-colored bright batik style print. Dress has scoop neckline and full length sleeves with ruffles at ends. The dress has an empire waist with a wide band of smocking, and there is smocking to match at each sleeve. The skirt is fairly full and about ankle length. Aside from a small brown stain on the edge of the neckline, the dress is in very nice condition and looks hardly worn. In the print of the gown is the exact same color as the color of the brown small stain on neckline, so it does blend in rather than stand out. Size small. About a size 4 loose fit, or size 6 snug fit in modern sizes. Measures 36" bust, 26-28" waist, free hips, 14" shoulder to bottom of smocking, 36" bottom of smocking to hem. Late 40's- 1950's New Look Traina-Norell Matte Satin Evening Dress

"Traina-Norell" label and "Nan Duskin Philadelphia" label. Rare late 40's to 1950 Traina Norell label, more elusive than Dior, for this era. Superb heavy black matte silk satin fabric, the finest quality you will ever touch- and that is not an overstatement.  Dress is styled with V neckline with wide sculpted collar, fitted bodice and waist, short fitted sleeves. Bodice has decorative, working double-breasted look with beautiful rhinestone buttons, 3 buttons each sleeve to match. Skirt is gored and very very full, lots of fabric. Dress is beautifully lined, fastens with side metal zipper. In excellent condition except for a tiny bit of fraying on two of the button holes, and the leather backing on the belt is broken. Buttons are not original, but so expertly done that look original. Absolutely gorgeous "New Look" dress. Size medium. 1950's Silk Faille Halter Dress

No labels but absolutely top-notch construction. Jet black silk faille with satin finish dress with super form-fitting bodice, nipped waist, and full skirt. The dress has two sets of halter straps, on set crosses in front and the other fastens at neck. The dress has lots of lovely hand stitching and fastens with side metal zipper. Inset narrow waist band fastens over zipper with hook and eye. Unlined. In excellent condition. Size small. Measures 34B bust, 24" waist, free hips, about 16" top of strap to waist.
