Valentino Dramatic Evening Gown with Sarong Skirt

1960's Tina
Leser Cotton Print Gown with Matching Shawl
"A Tina Leser Original"
label. One of our most famous American sportswear designers of the
mid-century. From the late 1960's, a full length cotton print dress with
matching shawl in a bandana or calico print. The print a lace and leaves print in mint and white.
There is very nice contrasting border prints on straps, borders and
inset waist band. The matching shawl is trimmed in hand crocheted lace.
This is no run-of-the-mill cotton maxi dress. This is a beautifully
designed and constructed dress. The bodice is lined in white cotton, the
skirt in a semi-sheer cotton. There is an attached underskirt that has a
generous band of hand crocheted lace, to peak out from the skirt. Nice
touch. The dress is fitted through the bodice, and through the
waist. The skirt is pleated and semi-full. The dress fastens with
back nylon zipper, with a wide placket under the waist that fastens over
the zipper and hides it. The lining and the attached slip make the dress
a bit heavy - probably intended for cooler climates of summer, or
spring. In pristine condition. Size small. Measures 34"
bust, 26" waist, free hips, 16" top of strap to
waist band, 41 1/2" waist to hem. For a larger view

1950's
Taffeta and Tulle Evening Dress with Appliqués
Late 40's to early 50's.
No labels found, professionally made. A very pretty black dress in
silk taffeta with black tulle overlay. Fitted through bodice and
waist, with full skirt. The straps are covered in tulle, too. The
neckline is trimmed in ruffled tulle, the hem is trimmed in a 5"
band of micro-pleated tulle. The interesting thing about the dress,
and what makes it special is the matelasse' or embossed matte
taffeta leaf design along the neckline and hem. This is hand
applied. The design is small on neckline portion, and large at the
hem. This is a fairly light weight dress, not a heavy, structured
dress. The bodice is lined but not reinforced with stays. The dress
fastens with side metal zipper. In excellent clean condition. Size
small-medium. Measures 36" bust, 28" waist, free hips, 15" shoulder
to waist, 28" waist to hem. For a larger view

Sophie Gimbel
Salon Moderne Printed Silk Chiffon Evening Gown
"Salon Moderne " Saks Fifth
Avenue label. The Salon Moderne at Saks was the couture custom
department. Sophie Gimbel was the custom designer for Salon Moderne,
which also carried original designs from top couturiers. The gown is
printed silk chiffon over matching printed satin, very fine and
expensive. Probably a spring gown, the floral print in gorgeous multi-pastel colors against a watery aqua
background. The gown is Grecian one-shoulder strap style, with the strap
covered in a full length pleated silk chiffon panel, matching the dress
of course. The bodice has tight pleating across the bust, and front to
back along the top. Fitted, with a semi-full, full-length skirt. The
bodice of the gown is lined in a matching blue silk, the skirt (printed
satin) is lined in cream silk. The gown fastens with back metal zipper.
In very very good condition. The bodice lining has been let out at side seams
and back darts. There
is a small snag on side of skirt at hip, and one of the side stays is missing
from the bodice lining. Easy to remove or replace. Size small-medium.
