1950's Harvey Berin Cashmere and Satin Day/Night Dress

"Harvey Berin designed by Karen Stark" label. Berin's designs are always ultra-chic and classic. He always used the finest fabrics. You never see a 50's era Berin dress made out of rayon or acetate, never. Always imported fabrics and always the best. This is one of the most beautiful little black dresses I have seen. It is in immaculate condition, and has the most interesting couture details. this is a fitted sheath dress with cap style sleeves, barely sleeves really, sitting just at the edge. Narrows the waist, see? Fitted, with light shirring at waist seam above and below. The back of the dress is a bit more dramatic, and is what takes this design from day to night. The back neckline plunges in a V, and has an inset matte black silk satin panel inserted into the V. The satin has a sculptural quality, and fastens inside the dress with hooks and snaps over the metal zipper placket. There is a little black satin bow at the tip of the V (at waistline). To complete the look, there is a leather-backed black cashmere belt with silk satin ties, to be tied in a bow at front. The dress is fully lined in black silk and is in Mint condition. Size medium. 1950's Traina-Norell "New Look" Matte Satin Dress

"Traina- Norell New York" label. Black matte satin, fairly heavy weight - really gorgeous fabric. Dress is styled with plunging rounded neckline with collar. The original insert for the neckline is gone, the owner had the striped insert made which unfastens with snaps. Short cuffed sleeves, fitted waist. Dress has decorative self covered buttons from waist to collar. Skirt is gored and very very full. Skirt is lined, side metal zipper. Inner grosgrain waist cincher belt. Very good condition, dress presents beautifully. There is a 1/4" rip across the underarm seam on front, and there is fraying all along the edges of the hem. Wearable as is, with hemming and the small repair could be near perfect. Also there is a long horizontal run in the fabric on front side skirt, and the lining on underside of skirt is a bit faded. Size medium. Measures 16" shoulder to shoulder seam, 38" bust, 28" waist, free hips, 16" shoulder to waist, 28" waist to hem. Belt shown is not included. For a larger view click here. 1950's-60's Luis Estevez Cotton Graphic Print Halter Gown

"Estevez" label. Cuban born Coty Award winner. After attending fashion school, worked for Patou in Paris. It is said that his 1950's lively and feminine designs were inspired by his wife. This is a good example of that, I think. A curvy yet long and lean silhouette with a lattice style halter neckline, with plunging back. Fitted at the waist, ankle or slightly above length skirt with perfect side slits. The dress is made of cotton, and lined in cotton. The bold plaid print is a great and humorous contrast with the summer halter style. The colors are white, black and true red (not orange red, more blue red). The halter neckline and side slits are done in black cotton piping. The double straps are of same fabric. The gown fastens in back with metal zipper. While it has no belt, I think there probably was one originally. I am showing the gown with a black ribbon. In very good to excellent condition, the straps may have been shortened or lengthened at one point, and the zipper has had a bit of seam repair. Size small-medium. 1950's Dorothy O'Hara Curvy Cocktail Dress with Harem Skirt

"Dorothy O'Hara" label. Jet black rayon crepe dress is bias cut which allows the fabric to mold to the body. Deep plunging front, back and sides of crepe dress expose a gorgeous strapless Chantilly type lace bodice. The lace bodice is backed in a copper-peach faille fabric, boned for support and lace is decoratively scalloped across the top. The crepe is pleated a bit at the sides where it meets the bodice in front, and the skirt is slim fitting with a gathered-up and decoratively pleated hem that resembles harem pants. The bodice is lined, the rest of the dress is not. Fastens with back metal zipper. In excellent condition, with one exception: The underside of the straps (front only) have had small pads removed, so there is a small hole where they use to be. The straps are self lined. The lace and lining of lace are in beautiful condition. Size bust small. Will fit up to a 36-37BC bust, 24" waist, 35" hips, 16" shoulder to waist. For a larger view click here.
