1950's
Edith Small for Bullock's Tailored Cotton Skirt Suit
"Edith Small California
Originals, Imported Fabric" and "Bullock's
Wilshire Los Angeles" labels. Edith Small was famous across the country
and quite popular in her day, and was known for her feminine suits and
gowns, and for using imported French and Italian fabrics. If you
love Lilli Ann, you will love this suit. This cotton or
cotton blend day suit is done in navy with small white dots. The jacket
is perfectly shaped, fitted, and styled with warm-weather short sleeves
with white cotton pique' trim on neckline, sleeves and at sides of V of
neckline, as if piped through. Jacket fastens front with original fabric
covered buttons and is really beautifully made and lined in matching
silk crepe. The skirt of the jacket has a thicker, stiffer lining to
keep it's shape - it is suppose to curve outward like a peplum. The skirt has side metal zipper with button, and back kick
pleat and is un-lined. Suit is in excellent condition and size medium.
Jacket measures 16" shoulder to shoulder edge, 38" bust, 30" waist, 38"
hips, 16" shoulder to waist. Skirt measures 28" waist, 39" hips, and 28"
in length. For a larger view

1950's
Fitted Wool Coat with Decorative Scarf Collar - Chic
Labels missing. A gorgeous coat in a thick,
loose wool weave in cream and black. The coat is slightly fitted, has
glove length sleeves and a high neckline with a sculptural "collar"
scarf, that pipes through one side of scarf into a button hole. This
button hole on the scarf is finished and bound around the opening with
black wool, matching all of the button holes down front of coat. The
scarf is also trimmed in black wool that is so soft and elegant feeling,
it feels just like cashmere. Large plastic carved novelty buttons look
original to the coat. There is a faux back belt, fastened down at each
side with same exact buttons as on front of coat only half the size.
Coat is lined in ivory rayon acetate. The coat is in very good to
excellent condition. The outer portion is excellent except for one
pulled black thread on one sleeve. The lining has several pin head sized
holes, and a tiny faint spray of rust spots. Size Small. Measures 15
1/2" shoulder to shoulder edge, 37" bust,
30" waist, 37" hips, about 15
1/2" shoulder to waist, 25" waist to hem. Probably meant for a shorter
or more petite figured gal. For a larger view

1950's Lilli
Ann Wool Coat
"Blin & Blin Fabulous French Woolens designed by
Lilli Ann" and "Lilli Ann Paris San Francisco" labels. This is an exceptional fabric,
probably wool and mohair - it has some kind of fur fibers. The threads are very
dense, plump and soft. The fabric is very thick, fairly heavy. In the
right lighting, the eyelash fibers actually glisten. This coat has very
little wear and has been stored well. Ink black wool and mohair blend
coat with black satin lining. This is a full-cut, un-fitted coat with
it's original self covered buttons. There is a self bow at the neckline,
the sleeves are full length are wider at the hem. Aside from the fur
collar having been removed, the coat is in excellent condition. Size
medium to large. Measures 16" shoulder to shoulder edge, 20" sleeves,
42" bust, and fairly full through the waist and hips. For a larger view

1940's Saks
Fifth Avenue Ribbed Wool Princess Coat - Shear Elegance - Couture
"Saks Fifth Avenue" label,
late 1940's New Look. Saks in-house designer was Sophie Gimbel, not
positive of course that this is one of her designs, but if it is an
in-house design then probably so. This is one of the most beautiful 40's
princess fit-and-flare coats I have ever seen, and it is just
immaculate. The fabric is gorgeous. A soft, thick black ribbed wool
(that has fur like quality) lined in black silk taffeta. Slightly padded shoulders, full length
adjustable cuffed sleeves, and hidden inset pockets. The coat fastens
with ball shaped black buttons with rhinestone centers. The last couple
of buttons are hidden, they fasten from the inside and they are
intentionally a different type of button. The skirt flares beautifully
out from waist. There is a black silk velvet jabot tie attached at
neckline under the collar, a nice detail. The coat is in excellent to
mint condition. Size small. Measures 15 1/2" shoulder to shoulder seam,
sleeves measure 24" cuffed and can be folded up as desired,
bust measures 36", waist 28", hips free, 16" shoulder to waist,
28"
waist to hem. For a larger view click here. For a side view
